How to use the calculator
Enter the sale price and quantity, then your landed product cost, the shipping you cover and the ad spend behind the order. Below that, set the fee rates for your plan: the transaction fee, which is zero on Shopify Payments, and the payment processing percentage plus its flat amount. The result panel keeps a running net profit, your margin and the total fees as you type.
The fee fields are editable on purpose. Shopify rates change by plan, by country and over time, so the defaults are a realistic start, not a promise. Confirm your current rates in your Shopify admin and adjust. For the costs that belong in your product cost before you ever apply a fee, read what is cost of goods sold.
Enter the sale and cost
Sale price, quantity and your landed product cost set the top and bottom of the order before any fee.
Set your fee rates
Transaction and processing rates vary by plan and country, so edit them to match what Shopify actually charges you.
Read net profit
The headline figure is what you keep after every fee and cost, not the revenue the dashboard shows.
Watch the fee total
The breakdown separates each cut, so an oversized fee or a thin margin is easy to spot per order.
The Shopify profit formula
Net profit on a Shopify order is revenue minus your product cost and every fee, plus the shipping and ad spend you carry. Margin is that profit over revenue.
The figures in the calculator are illustrative until you type your own. Once you know your margin per order, you can work prices the other way with the how to price a product guide, or compare it against the costs that quietly eat e-commerce margins in e-commerce profit margin explained.
Frequently asked questions
What fees does Shopify charge on a sale?
Two kinds. If you use Shopify Payments there is a payment processing fee on each sale, often around 2.9 percent plus a fixed amount per order on the Basic plan, with lower percentages on higher plans. If you use an outside gateway instead, Shopify also adds a transaction fee of up to 2 percent. The calculator lets you set both because the exact numbers depend on your plan and country.
How do I calculate profit on a Shopify order?
Start with the sale price times quantity to get revenue, then subtract your product cost, the Shopify transaction fee, the payment processing fee, any shipping you cover and the ad spend behind the order. What is left is your net profit. Divide that by revenue for your margin.
Does the transaction fee apply if I use Shopify Payments?
No. The extra transaction fee only applies when you take payment through a third-party gateway. With Shopify Payments that fee is zero, which is why the field defaults to zero here. You still pay the payment processing fee either way.
Are these Shopify fee rates accurate?
They are realistic defaults, not a live rate card. Shopify fees vary by plan, by country and over time, so treat the numbers as a starting point, confirm your current rates in your Shopify admin, and edit the fields to match.
Is this Shopify fee calculator free?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser, needs no account and costs nothing. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. If you want this math run automatically on your real Shopify sales and costs every month, that is what TrueProfit does.
