How to use the calculator

Enter the selling price and quantity, your item cost per unit, and what it costs to ship each unit into Amazon. Then set the two Amazon fees below: the referral percentage, which varies by category, and the flat FBA fulfilment fee per unit, which depends on size and weight. The result panel keeps a running net profit, margin and total fees as you type.

The fee fields are editable because Amazon rates differ by category and item, and change over time, so the defaults are a realistic start rather than a promise. Confirm your current rates in Seller Central and adjust. For the costs that belong in your item cost before any fee, read what is cost of goods sold.

Enter the sale and cost

Selling price, quantity and item cost set the order before Amazon takes anything.

Set the referral fee

The referral percentage varies by category, so edit it to match what Amazon charges on your products.

Set the FBA fee

The fulfilment fee is a flat amount per unit tied to size and weight. Use the figure from your own listings.

Read net profit

The headline figure is what you keep after both Amazon fees and your own costs, not the sale price.

The Amazon FBA profit formula

Net profit on an Amazon FBA order is revenue minus your item cost, the inbound shipping, the referral fee and the FBA fulfilment fee. Margin is that profit over revenue.

Revenue = selling price x quantity

Amazon fees = referral % x revenue + FBA fee x quantity

Net profit = revenue - item cost - inbound shipping - Amazon fees

The figures in the calculator are illustrative until you type your own. Once you know your margin per order, the how to price a product guide works prices back from a target, and the break-even calculator shows how many units cover your fixed costs.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What fees does Amazon FBA charge on a sale?

Two main ones. The referral fee is a percentage of the sale price that Amazon takes on every order, and it varies by category, often around 15 percent. The FBA fulfilment fee is a flat amount per unit for picking, packing and shipping, and it depends on the item size and weight. The calculator includes both, plus your item cost and the cost to ship units into Amazon.

How do I calculate profit on an Amazon FBA order?

Take the selling price times quantity as your revenue, then subtract your item cost, the inbound shipping to send units to Amazon, the referral fee and the FBA fulfilment fee. What remains is your net profit, and dividing it by revenue gives your margin.

What is the difference between the referral fee and the FBA fee?

The referral fee is a percentage of the sale that Amazon charges for selling on the marketplace, so it scales with your price. The FBA fulfilment fee is a flat charge per unit for storing, picking, packing and shipping the order, so it scales with size and weight rather than price. Both are editable here.

Are these Amazon fee rates accurate?

They are realistic defaults, not a live rate card. Referral percentages differ by category and FBA fees differ by size and weight, and both change over time, so treat the numbers as a starting point, confirm your current rates in Seller Central, and edit the fields.
